OTTAWA, ON– The Honourable Member for Haldimand-Norfolk, Diane Finley, has been appointed to fill the final vacancy on the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians. The Prime Minister announced the appointment, effective March 7, 2019.
“Diane is an experienced and accomplished Member of Parliament who has held several senior government roles during her career. I have every confidence that she will serve all Canadians with dedication and integrity as a member of this committee,” said Conservative Party Leader, Andrew Scheer.
“I’m honoured that our leader, Andrew Scheer, and the Prime Minister have placed their trust in me to sit as a member of this Committee,” Finley remarked. “The work of this group is incredibly important to the safety and security of the country. I’m really looking forward to working hard on the issues that the committee deals with on behalf of all Canadians.”
The National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians is a multi-party committee that includes representatives from both the House of Commons and the Senate. It has the authority to review wide-ranging national security and intelligence activities carried out by at least 17 different agencies and departments across the Government of Canada.
